The endocrine system is made up of glands that create and release hormones throughout the body. The major glands of the endocrine system are:
- Pituitary gland (in the brain)
- Thyroid gland (in the neck)
- Adrenal glands (on the kidneys)
- Pancreas
- Reproductive glands - ovaries in women, testicles in me
The actions of the endocrine systems affect all almost every organ, system, and bodily function. The endocrine system plays a major role in:
- Regulating mood
- Growth & development
- Metabolism
- Sexual function & reproduction
