How do I know if I have hypogonadism?

The diagnosis for hypogonadism is based on the patient’s symptoms and testosterone blood levels. If hypogonadism is suspected, the doctor will perform a physical exam and order blood tests to determine if testosterone is in the normal range. Testosterone levels are highest in the morning so blood tests should always be performed before 10:00 a.m.

If hypogonadism is diagnosed, further testing may determine the cause. Tests may include hormone testing, genetic testing, thyroid testing, testing for anemia, iron levels, pituitary function, and semen analysis.
