What is prostate cancer?

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in North American men (other than skin cancer).  One out of every six or seven men will develop this disease.

The exact cause of prostate cancer is still unknown, but a combination of genetic, nutritional, and environmental factors appear to play a role.  Prostate cancer is usually diagnosed with a blood test and digital rectal exam.  Common treatments for prostate cancer: active surveillance, surgery, radiation, and hormone therapy.  Prostate cancer treatments often lead to side effects like urinary problems and erectile dysfunction. Food and nutrition intake are an important part of prostate cancer treatment. An overall healthy diet will benefit all patients.
