Testosterone Health
What you should know about hypogonadism (low testosterone):
- The risk of having hypogonadism increases with age. Men over age 65 are more than twice as likely to have hypogonadism as men under age 65.
- Although testosterone levels start to fall at age 40 some men maintain normal levels well into their seventies and beyond.
- Men with diabetes, obesity, sleep apnea, prostate disease, hypertension, and some other medical conditions have higher rates of hypogonadism.
- The primary treatment for hypogonadism is testosterone replacement therapy (TRT). Testosterone can be administered several different ways: injections, patches, gels, buccal tablets (that dissolve in the gum line), pills, and implanted pellets.
